Employee ownership is often described as something soft. Something that “falls into place” if the culture is good. We don’t believe that. To us, employee ownership is something far more demanding and far more important.
At Stretch, employee ownership is about responsibility. About wanting to step forward, contribute, and make an impact. Not only when things are easy, but also when there is friction. When decisions are difficult, the pace is high, and the answers are not readily available.
At Stretch, culture is not built from the top down. It is built every day, by all of us. In the way we meet each other, how we handle discussions, how we collaborate, and how we live our values in practice. It’s about what we do when it truly matters. That is why employee ownership is essential to who we are and where we are headed.
Being an employee with us is not about waiting for clear instructions or ready-made answers. It is about taking responsibility for the bigger picture, not just your own delivery. It is about understanding your context, recognizing your role, and actively contributing to our shared success. It means speaking up when something does not feel right, suggesting improvements when something can be better, and taking responsibility for driving those improvements forward.
It requires courage. And it requires trust.
Trust does not mean that everything should feel comfortable. Trust means that we dare to express opinions, ask questions, and explore new paths without fear of failure. With us, there should be openness and a strong bias toward action. We believe in people who want more, can do more, and take responsibility, both for themselves and for each other.
Employee ownership is closely connected to our values, our entrepreneurial mindset, and our focus on results. Our values give us direction and help us navigate even when things are unclear and under pressure. Entrepreneurship is about not getting stuck in “someone else’s responsibility,” but instead stepping forward, taking action, and making a difference. And results come when we take shared ownership of what we are building together.
It is easy to talk about responsibility when everything is going well. It is harder when it is not. But that is exactly when our employee ownership is tested. When we stand firm, take responsibility even for the tough parts, and continue moving forward together.
None of us builds this alone. We do it together through our actions, our decisions, and the way we take responsibility in the small things, every single day. Every meeting is a choice. Every collaboration is an opportunity. Every delivery is a shared proof point.
Employee ownership is not a side track to culture. It is a core part of it. When we take responsibility, show commitment, and contribute, we do not just create better results, we also build companies that last over time.
And that is where our pride lies. In how we step forward, take responsibility, and make a difference.
